How to Care for Your Roses

Caring for your Roses
Roses like lots of water after planting them, they love rich loamy soil so be
sure to use good soil amendments during planting. Be careful not to use compost
with a high fertilizer content, sometimes this could burn the roots during
plantings.
Blooming problems are usually due to not enough phosphorus in your soil. Be
sure to use a rose food fertilizer that has a high phosporus number.
Most rose fertilizers have 3 numbers printed across the bag. The first number
is for nitrogen which makes most roses and plants green. The second number is
for phosphorus which helps in flower development and blooms. And the third
number is for potassium which is for cold hardiness and photosynthesis or in
other words more blooms and proper nutrition flow.
If roses still do not bloom you could have an insect problem. It is best to
use a systemic insecticide to get rid of these insects. Call or consult Dothan
Nurseries for further information.
You should fertilize your roses at least 3 times per year, once in spring,
summer and early fall. Never fertilize in late fall or winter.
