Champagne Bubbles Poppies

Poppies are the flowers that make a garden look like it grew there all by itself. Their delicate, papery blooms sit on slender stems and move with the slightest breeze, giving flower beds that loose, romantic look we love in old-fashioned cottage gardens.

They’re perfect for weaving between other cool-season flowers instead of planting in stiff little rows. Once they start blooming, those almost tissue-paper flowers are impossible not to notice.

And here in South Alabama, Poppies are a cool-weather treat. Planting them during our cooler season gives them time to grow and put on their show before the serious Southern heat arrives.

📏 Mature Height: Approximately 12–30 inches, depending on variety

🌸 Bloom Season: Late winter through spring in South Alabama

🌿 Growth Habit: Loose, upright stems with delicate flowers held above the foliage

🪴 Great For: Cottage gardens, flower beds, borders, mixed plantings, and cutting gardens

💧 Water: Water regularly while establishing, then allow the soil to begin drying between waterings

🌱 Soil: Well-drained soil is important, especially during wet weather

🌡️ South Alabama Tip: Poppies love cool weather and won't appreciate our summer heat. Enjoy them during fall, winter, and spring while the temperatures are on their side.

Plant them where they have room to sway in the breeze and do their thing. Poppies aren't supposed to look perfectly behaved, and that's exactly why we love them. 🌸
